Summer use - Breathe easy
4 Apr 2016 Engines & AftercareAn engine that can breathe easily will pay you back with many years of hard work
Heavy work or exercise makes you breathe harder and faster to get more air into your lungs, your engine is no different and when working hard demands air for both combustion and cooling.
Ensuring your engine can breathe easily is vital for its performance in preventing engine damage; this is possibly the most critical consideration for the operator during use.
The engine must be able to breathe clean air for combustion, so check the air filter is clean and correctly installed, a dirty filter will starve the engine of air and cause a loss of power. A damaged or incorrectly installed filter will allow debris into the engine causing premature wear and eventual engine failure.
Also check the cooling system to ensure the screen guard (if installed) and the rotating screen are clear of any debris that could restrict airflow, and that the cylinder head cooling fins underneath the engine cover are clean and clear of any grass and leaves. An engine that can breathe easily will pay you back with many years of hard work.
