Winter storage advice for your machinery

As the colder months approach you might find you're using your Kawasaki-powered garden machinery less and less. Before storing it away over the winter, take a look at our 4-step essential advice.

Drain the engine of fuel

If your equipment will be stored for over 30 days, make sure to drain the fuel. Ethanol is now added to fuel to reduce CO2 emissions and prolonged inactivity can lead to corrosion. Older machines were more resistant due to the use of certain materials now known to be hazardous. Modern engines no longer contain these substances and with the changes to fuel composition it's more important than ever to drain equipment before storage!

Fuel stabilisers caution

While you might consider using fuel stabilisers, be cautious! There are many products available on the market that we have not tested and therefore cannot officially recommend for use. Adding stabilisers can affect engine performance, leading to issues like poor starting, rough running, smoking, misfiring, and poor economy. The best practice is to focus on a full fuel drainage for safe winter storage.

Run the engine until it stops

To ensure residual fuel within the fuel pipes and carburettor is removed completely, the most effective method is to operate the engine until it depletes its fuel supply. Our recommendation is to run the engine until it comes to a stop.
